Rs 1,862 Cr Shyampur Project & Assam Hydro Secure Forest Clearances

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has greenlit the diversion of 289.8 hectares of forest land for the Shyampur Barrage Major Micro Irrigation Project in Madhya Pradesh.

Appraised by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) with an estimated cost of Rs 1,862.50 crore, the project is proposed on the Kuno River (a Chambal tributary). It features a 1,465-metre barrage and a pressurized pipeline irrigation network. In total, the project spans 639.85 hectares (comprising private, government, and forest land) and is situated near the National Chambal Sanctuary within the ecologically sensitive Kuno-Ranthambore Tiger Corridor.

In a separate development, the EAC has recommended clearing 190.70 hectares of forest land for a 1,300 MW pumped storage project located in West Karbi Anglong, Assam.
